Sarah Beth Nelson
“Vox Fabularum” means “the voice of the stories.” This is how Sarah Beth thinks of herself as a storyteller. Stories only exist as long as there are people who are willing to tell them and people who are willing to listen. Sarah Beth pulls tales out of the aether, breathes life into them, and sends them on their way. The stories she shares will find a home in your ears and in your hearts.
Sarah Beth’s stories are informed by her studies of classical mythology and history, her strong love of the oral tradition, and of course, the adventures in her own life.
She has told stories about the Trojan War and Jupiter’s conquests as part of the University of Georgia Classics Department’s annual festival, Athenaze. She has also presented a workshop entitled “Ovid in Space” for the Georgia State Latin Convention.
Recently, Sarah Beth had the opportunity to spend a year living in Norwich, UK. While there, she presented many programs on American culture for the 2nd Air Division Memorial Library, located in Norwich, and the Ancient House Museum, located in Thetford, UK. Among the stories she shared were “Rattlesnake Soup,” her own participatory tale adapted from a practical joke cowboys used to play on each other, and “How Jack Came to America,” possibly the strangest Jack tale you will ever hear.
During the school year, Sarah Beth works as a librarian for The Lovett School in Atlanta where she shares her enthusiasm for both print and oral stories with the lower school students.
Sarah Beth currently serves on the SOS board as membership chair. Please feel free to contact her with any questions you have about membership in SOS.
You may also contact Sarah Beth about performing as a storyteller. She is available on weekends and school holidays, including the summer months.
