Author. Speaker. Storyteller. Survivor.
Cherise Bopape is a Georgia author, entrepreneur, and freelance writer whose love of storytelling developed during her membership with Toastmasters International. There she competed in the organization’s International Speech Contest, advancing through several ranks to compete at the district level for the state of Georgia. Her presentation—a story about her wedding in South Africa—gained popularity.
Since then, she has performed variations of her original tale at a milestone birthday gala, a graduation celebration, a church’s New Year’s Eve program, and as the grand finale for a senior citizen’s fashion show. Equipped with props, a fun accent, and authentic African attire, she enthralls, enlightens, and entertains.
Cherise enjoys telling Bible stories to elementary school students on Sundays. While visiting a church in Virginia, she shared one of her original tales with the congregation. Cherise created an interactive storytelling environment where children were inspired, learned a new word in Sotho (one the languages spoken in South Africa), and gleaned educational tidbits about the region.
Although many of Cherise’s favorite tales are inspired by visits to her husband’s native country (South Africa), she also derives stories from her personal experiences. Consequently, Cherise’s magazine articles, blog posts, and presentations address such topics as parenting, communication, domestic violence, and life balance. Pairing research with events from her unique journey in life, she’s able to edify diverse groups of people.
